The Oregano Oil story

Fifty kilos of wild oregano for one litre of oil

Greek oregano is already the most antioxidant-rich herb on earth. Distil it and you have something close to the essence of the Greek hillside.

  1. Wild herbs on a rocky Greek hillside
    01Λόφοι

    The hillsides

Sun-baked, rocky slopes above the Aegean — the harsher the site, the higher the carvacrol.

  2. Freshly harvested Greek herbs
    02Βότανο

    The herb

Origanum vulgare hirtum — true Greek oregano — cut by hand at full flower in July.

  3. Bags of dried Greek herbs

    The still

Steam passes through the flowering tops and carries the oil with it. Nothing is added, nothing removed.

  4. Steam rising from a bowl

    The ritual

A drop in a bowl of steaming water in cold season; two drops in olive oil, rubbed into the chest or feet.

Why it works

Carvacrol — the reason oregano is famous

Greek oregano oil is among the richest natural sources of carvacrol and thymol, the phenols studied for antimicrobial, antifungal and antioxidant activity. It has been used across the Mediterranean for centuries — on the skin, in steam, in the sickroom.*

Because it is so concentrated it must always be diluted. Ours is 100% pure, single-plant and certified organic, so you control the strength.

How to brew

How to use it

A little goes a long way — start with a drop or two.

On the skin

  1. Dilute 1–2 drops per tsp of olive or coconut oil
  2. Patch-test on the inner arm first
  3. Massage into chest, feet or affected area
  4. Avoid eyes and mucous membranes

In the air

  1. Add 2–3 drops to a diffuser
  2. Or 1 drop in a bowl of steaming water
  3. Breathe deeply for a few minutes
  4. Ideal in cold season

It's strong. Oregano oil is one of the 'hot' oils — never use it neat on skin, and keep it away from children and pets.

The difference

Pure Greek essential oil vs. the drugstore bottle

Most 'essential oils' are cut with carrier oil or replaced with synthetic fragrance. Ours is the plant, distilled.

Not sure if this is the correct way to use this, but I add 2 drops onto a vanilla candle and as the candle burns, the aroma of the liquid Oregano Drops adds a soothing blend to the vanilla scent.and it smells wonderful.

From the founder

Yia mas — to your health.

I grew up on Ikaria, where herbs were not a wellness trend — they were what my grandmother picked on the hillside, dried on the roof and brewed every evening for whoever walked through the door.

Real leaves and roots, never the broken dust sealed into a bag.

Every plant we sell is harvested at peak potency, hand-cut, air-dried the traditional way and hand-packed. Nothing added, nothing taken away.
