FAQs
What is mountain tea, and how is it different from other teas?
Greek mountain tea has been brewed in the hills of Greece for centuries — ours is wild Sideritis Scardica (also called tsái tou vounoú or ironwort), gathered from the high elevations of Mount Olympus. Up there, mineral-rich soil, strong Mediterranean sun, and thin mountain air drive up its polyphenol content, giving ours roughly double the polyphenols of typical commercial mountain teas. We harvest it whole-leaf and air-dry it by hand, so you steep real leaves and flowers, never the broken dust and fannings packed into most tea bags. No plastic tea bags, no microplastics — single-origin from Greece and certified organic.
What are the benefits of mountain tea?
Mountain tea has been enjoyed across Greece for generations and is naturally rich in polyphenols, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, which our whole-leaf, air-dried process helps keep intact. It's also caffeine-free, so it's an easy cup any time of day. If you're drinking it with a specific health goal in mind, your doctor is the best person to advise on what's right for you.
What does it taste like?
Earthy and floral, smooth and refreshing — mild and very easy to drink. Lovely with a spoon of raw honey, a slice of lemon, or a cinnamon stick.
Collapsible row
Does it have caffeine?
No — it's naturally caffeine-free, so you can enjoy it any time, including the evening.
How do I brew it?
Hot: 1 teaspoon per 8 oz of just-boiled water, steeped 5–7 minutes. Iced: 4–6 teaspoons per quart of room-temperature water, steeped 4–6 hours. The leaves are generous, so you can re-steep them for a second batch.
How do I store it, and how long does it last?
Keep it in a cool, dark, dry place, sealed tight and away from sunlight and moisture. Dried herbs don't expire — they just slowly lose a little aroma and potency over time, so they're best enjoyed within about two years for peak flavor.
Is it safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Our teas are natural, certified-organic herbs with nothing added. But pregnancy and breastfeeding are times to be a little extra careful — some herbs aren't recommended then, and everyone's situation is different. We always recommend checking with your doctor or midwife before adding a new herbal tea to your routine; they know what's right for you and your baby.
